Just a little bit about me…

I’m a Projectionist by trade and enjoy running in my spare time.

In April 2025 I’ll be running the London Marathon for Pancreatic Cancer UK. It will also be 10 years since I ran it previously (I’ll explain how that went along the way!).

As with my running journey this is a work in progress and I’ll be sharing it as I go.

Thanks for reading.

Day Sixty One…let’s ride again!

Back on the bike today! I’d have loved to fit in a longer session, but with limited time, I made the most of the 50 minutes by pushing myself as much as I could—without overdoing it. Each session, I feel my strength and stamina improving, especially as I’m able to push my heart rate that…

Day Sixty…Sleeping Beauty!

Today was supposed to be a rowing session, but after finishing work later than planned, I ended up crashing on the sofa instead. At first, I was frustrated with myself for falling asleep, but I clearly needed the rest – sometimes, you have to listen to your body instead of being too hard on yourself.…

Day Fifty Nine…quick row.

Today’s workout had to be a quick one since I had dinner plans with friends – no chance of rowing after a big meal! I knocked out 40 minutes on the rower, pushing myself harder than usual and only stopping for a quick drink. Now that I’ve done a few sessions, I’m starting to feel…

Day Fifty Eight…back on the bike.

After yesterday’s unplanned rest day, the soreness had eased, and I was ready to get back on the bike! I knocked out 20km in 40 minutes on the static bike, focusing on keeping my heart rate in the same range as it would be during a run. I’ll admit, I find exercise bike sessions tough…

Day Fifty Seven…return of the doms!

Today was meant to be a bike or rowing session, but instead, it turned into an unplanned rest day! Back-to-back rowing sessions left me with some serious delayed onset muscle soreness – proof that my body wasn’t quite ready for back to back sessions after not using those muscles for a while. It’s a good…

Day Fifty Six…Don’t look back in anger!

Rest day today – a chance to reflect on how far I’ve come. This injury setback is frustrating, no doubt, but I know I just have to let it run its course. That said, looking back on my training so far, it’s clear that all the effort I’ve put in has paid off. Even with…

Day Fifty Five…keep going!

Today’s plan was originally a 17-mile run, which would’ve taken around 2 hours and 40 minutes. Replicating that on the rowing machine? Nearly impossible. At first, I considered pushing for over two hours on the rower, but I quickly realized that wasn’t realistic either. Instead, I aimed for 90 minutes, focusing on longer sustained efforts…

Day Fifty Four…first one down!

Day one of cross-training on the rower on consecutive days, and the uncertainty is the hardest part – I have no idea how long this will last. Not knowing when I’ll be able to run again is frustrating, but all I can do is stay focused and make the most of it. I was eager…

Day Fifty Three…Don’t Panic!

Today was a scheduled rest day, but instead of stressing about not being able to run, I focused on recovery and planning. If I can’t run, I can still train smart. I spent time figuring out how to maintain my fitness through cross-training so that when I’m back on the roads, I’ll be in the…

Day Fifty Two…return of the pain!

Woke up this morning and felt the pain the moment I got out of bed. At first, I was disappointed – frustrated, even – and spent most of the day feeling down about it. But after some reflection, I decided to take this as an opportunity to focus on other areas of my fitness while…

Day Fifty One…last minute winner!

Got back to a medium run today, feeling optimistic from the start. The discomfort in my leg is still there but easing up with each passing day. Because of my schedule, I had to fit this one in before work – something I actually prefer, though it rarely works out that way. The run itself…

Day Fifty…still on the mill!

Another treadmill run today—while the discomfort is fading, it’s still lingering, so the lower-impact option wins out over outdoor running for now. I shaved a little more time off this distance, and I’m really settling into my rhythm at this pace – though I’m nowhere near ready to sustain it for a full marathon just…

Day Forty Nine…rest up!

After two days of intense running, a rest day was absolutely necessary. I was still riding the high from yesterday’s run, but I made sure to take recovery seriously – keeping activity to a minimum with just some light stretching and foam rolling. A hot bath with Epsom salts was the perfect way to relax…

Day Forty Eight… 2hrs 30 on the treadmill!

Today marked my longest run since completing the Dublin Marathon over eight years ago. I started the run with a healthy dose of apprehension, but the early hour left little time for second-guessing. I had fueled up with a hearty serving of porridge and jam on toast and packed some Kendal Mint energy gels for…

Day Forty Seven…back-to-back!

The first day of back-to-back medium and long runs kicked off with an 8-mile treadmill session to keep the impact lower. This run felt great – there was still some discomfort, but it’s definitely easing up. I had to squeeze it in after work, which doesn’t leave me much recovery time before tomorrow’s early morning…

Day Forty Six…the earlyish bird!

With a late start and finish at work today, I had the rare opportunity to run before heading in – a real treat! It was nice to wake up, have breakfast, and hop on the treadmill without the usual rush or overthinking. I’d love to make this a habit, but life doesn’t always allow for…

Day Forty Five…rest day it is!

As I mentioned yesterday, today would normally be a short run, but with time constraints, it turned into a much-needed rest day – giving my legs a little extra time to recover. But “rest” doesn’t mean doing absolutely nothing! I still stayed active, racking up nearly 15,000 steps, thanks to walking to and from the…

Day Forty Four…procrastination is the thief of time!

Today’s plan called for a slightly longer run, and I’ll admit – I was a bit apprehensive. An extra 25 to 30 minutes on my legs didn’t sound ideal, which led to plenty of procrastination and mental negotiations about pushing it to another day. But my schedule wasn’t budging, so I had no choice but…

Day Forty Three…almost back on schedule!

Easing back into nearly full training started today. The original plan called for 4 miles today, 8 miles tomorrow, and another 4 on Wednesday, but to avoid overloading my body, I adjusted it to 4.5, 7, and 4.5. There’s still some lingering discomfort – it comes and goes – but thankfully, it’s not getting worse.…

Day Forty Two…a much needed rest day!

Today, rest was the clear priority. Despite a busy schedule, I relished the opportunity to let my legs recover – a welcome break in my training. As the miles add up, these rest days are becoming increasingly crucial. To boost my recovery and keep my marathon training on track, I plan to incorporate some active…
